Like the American experience “Park Slope Food Coop”, La Louve is the first cooperative and participative supermarket in Paris, run by its members and on a non-profit basis.
Everyone can do their shopping there, you just have to become a co-operator, i. e. participate in the financing, governance and running of La Louve.
In the tradition of 19th century consumer cooperatives, decisions on store orientations are collective, a co-operator has one vote regardless of the number of shares and all profits are reinvested in the operation of the supermarket.
This self-management model reduces supermarket operating costs.
Margins, lower than in most other grocery stores, allow reasonable prices on a wide range of products.
La Louve is committed to making the cooperative accessible to everyone by meeting the needs and food choices of its members.
It also aims to make its participants aware of current food issues and wishes to become a place of exchange and sharing.
